Ruth Pellow

HORSESHOE BEND—Ruth Pellow of Horseshoe Bend died peacefully on December 23, 2023. She had recently celebrated her 76th birthday. She was born December 11, 1947, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Myrtle and James Green. Her mother later married Allen Wetzel and together they lived and traveled as a military family, expanding to include two sisters and a brother. While the family was stationed in Okinawa, teenaged Ruth met the love of her life, Edward Pellow. The two were married at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland on October 16, 1966. Ruth trained as a nurse but spent many years as a wife and mother. Later in her life, she earned a B.S. in Social Work and a B.A. in Psychology from Arkansas College (now Lyon College) where she fully enjoyed the college experience. She went on to earn her M.S.W. from UALR and had a full career as a licensed clinical social worker and educator. She touched many lives with her willingness to share her skills, knowledge, and expertise. Ruth was feisty and had a zest for life. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, and gardening. She loved spending time on the lake with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Edward; daughter, Pam Hipp (Scott) of Crossett; grandchildren, Hannah Weatherly, Megan Ferguson, Cody Ferguson, and Brooke Hipp; daughter, Terri Crawford (Gene) of Batesville; grandchildren Will Crawford (Lauren) and Sam Crawford; sister, Dale Lester (Kelly) of Jacksonville, Rose Bailey (Keith) of Bella Vista, and brother, Bobbie Wetzel of Heber Springs; three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive visitors at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, at Faith Presbyterian Church in Horseshoe Bend. Friends and family are invited to a bonfire, celebrating her remarkable life, at the family home following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts support the Dennis Wright Outdoor Experience Endowment at Lyon College. www.lyon.edu/give.
