Robert Franklin Stanton, 85, of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, passed away on August 24th, 2023. He was born to parents, Cecelia May (Oldeck) Stanton and Norman Franklyn Stanton on March 31st, 1938, in Southampton, New York.
He graduated from Leonardo High School with a Diploma of General Studies. He went on to study further at Jefferson Community College in Watertown, New York and graduated with an associate degree.
Robert worked as a Foreign Car Mechanic for 30+ years. Robert retired and closed his car repair shop, Towne Car Center in 1980. He followed his dream and moved to northern New York, where he, his wife and two children had previously spent many summers visiting and falling in love with the 1000 islands area near the Canadian border.
He enjoyed a list of passions and hobbies. As a young boy, Robert was involved with the Boy Scouts and achieved his Eagle Scout badge. Robert also had a passion for building hobby airplanes, wood working and making beautiful wood working pieces for his family and friends. He was a Pro Bass Angler with Ranger Boats. He enjoyed camping in the Dakotas with his grandchildren, ice fishing on the Saint Lawrence River, snowmobiling the trails and checking on his trapline and raising silver foxes. In 1985, Robert was honored with a NYS Trappers Association Trapper of the Year award. He was a past Fire Chief for Bryant Fire Department in Bryant, Missouri, and a Red Cross Affiliate.
Robert met Sally Kay Yarnell in 1959 at a race rally for old classic cars in New Jersey when she became his photographer for the day and as they say the rest is history. The two were married on February 14, 1961, in Highlands, New Jersey and together they raised two children, Beth Ann (Stanton) Brown and Robert Kenneth Stanton.
Robert is survived by his two children, Beth Ann (Stanton) Brown and husband Leon of Dora, Missouri and Robert Kenneth Stanton and wife Lori of Mountain Home, Arkansas; 8 grandchildren, Joshua and Sophia Rudes of West Plains, Missouri, Janelle and Charlie Feher of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, Jessy and Mandi Rudes of Gepp, Arkansas, Deanna Brown of Dora, Missouri, Sadie Brown of Manila, Arkansas, Conner Stanton of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Annie and Matt Brink of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Caelei Stanton of Mountain Home, Arkansas; 15 great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecelia M. and Norman F. Stanton; brother, Norman Everette; sisters, Helen Frances and Elizabeth May and most recently his wife of 61 years, Sally Kay Yarnell Stanton.
The family has chosen a private gathering.
