Klahr Frederick Raney III, of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, died on Friday, February 23, 2024, at his home after a lengthy illness, suffering from a rare blood disorder.
He was born on January 11, 1949, in McKenzie, Tennessee, son of the late Klahr F. Raney II and Lillian Iris (Castleberry) Raney.
Klahr was most proud of being a master woodworker of Craftsman furniture and of his woodturning. Woodworking was his main hobby, but he was a man of many skills. He loved building raised garden beds and gardening. Klahr also loved feeding the outdoor birds and deer.
He joined the Navy during the Vietnam War, as a machinist mate first class, nuclear submarine qualified.
In the civilian world, Klahr first worked as an industrial machinist, including working on forklifts. His last major job was a senior customer service specialist for Xerox in Austin, Texas.
He loved classical music and had been a Navy choir member, as well as playing in bands, starting in high school.
Klahr was a most beloved husband, sweetheart, and best friend to his wife, Mary.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Raney of the home; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Fred Stumpf of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Raney and Troy Stults of Houston, Texas; sister, Lea Thompson of Lewisville, Texas; nephew, Lee Thompson of Corinth, Texas; brother-in-law, Paul Rust of Fort Smith, Arkansas; mother-in-law, Eva Faye Rust of Fort Smith, Arkansas and aunt, Mary Lea Baker of Austin, Texas.
Klahr was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Russell Thompson.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, February 27, 2024, beginning at 10:00 AM at Evening Shadows Memorial Park in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM at the cemetery.
