Jonathan R. Knight, age 72, of Wiseman, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord, May 31, 2023. Jon died in his home in Wiseman after losing his fight with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 4, 1950, son of the late Reece and Lila (Cucksee) Knight. He was of the Baptist faith and loved Southern Gospel music and hell fire and brimstone preaching.
Jon graduated from Lakeview High School, Rossville, Georgia in 1968 and from Northwest Alabama Junior College in 1980 with an ASBA degree. He enlisted in the United States Navy shortly after graduating high school and spent 4 years in the service for his country, including one tour in Vietnam in 1969-1970.
He went to work for TVA in 1973 as a Student Generating Plant Operator. He worked as a Power Plant Operator with TVA until 1984 when he began to do contract work in the power industry. This led to eventually doing commissioning work in newly constructed power plants all over the country. He had several steam operator licenses as well as an ASME steam engineer license. Jon retired in 2018 after a job at the Eagle Valley Plant in Martinsville, Indiana.
He enjoyed many activities during his life span, including coaching little league baseball, playing softball, fishing, and woodworking. He always had time to help his neighbors and even strangers he met along the way; whether it was to change a flat tire for a stranger on the road, replace a lightbulb in a neighbor’s home, unstop a plugged sink drain, help get their hay in before it got too wet, or any task they needed done. He firmly believed that we serve God by serving and witnessing to others.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda Kay Knight of Wiseman, Arkansas; daughter, Erica Kay and husband Dennis Tate of Killen, Alabama; son, Jonathan David and wife Kristina Knight of Madison, Alabama; sister, Joyce Blair or Daisy, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Sharon Knight; brothers, Paul and wife Marsha Knight and Joel Knight all from the Chattanooga, Tennessee area; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other friends and relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Reece and Lila Knight; sister, Rebecca Sue Knight; brother, David Earl Knight; and brother-in-law, William Randall Blair.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023, beginning at 11:00 AM at Doty Family Funeral & Memorial Service Chapel in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, with Bro. Joe Walt officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow services at Evening Shadows Memorial Park in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas.
