James “Jim” David VanHouten, 80, of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, passed away, Sunday, March 31, 2024, in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
He was born in Springfield, Illinois, on October 5, 1943, son of the late Homer and Mary (Hamilton) VanHouten. Jim was united in marriage to Sandra Smith on May 20, 1989, in Springfield, Illinois. During his working years, Jim worked in security system sales. Jim served our country in the United States Marine Corps. He was active in the American Legion in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, for many years and served as Chaplain for over 20 years. Jim enjoyed traveling, especially to any Marine bases, fishing, and hunting. He loved his family and enjoyed his time spent with them. Jim was of the Baptist faith.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sandra VanHouten of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; son, Brian VanHouten and wife Mandy of Springfield, Illinois; granddaughter, Shelbi VanHouten; brothers, Norman VanHouten of Springfield, Illinois and Don VanHouten and wife Donna of Rivertown, Illinois; sister, Sandra Kerr of Springfield, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Connie VanHouten and brother-in-law, Ronald Kerr.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
